Calvariopsis kawense sp. nov.

( Figs 1U View FIGURE 1 , 23 View FIGURE 23 )

Type material. Holotype, male (MNHG): “Guyane Francaise \ Montagne Kaw \ Fourgassié \ 15.9.–1.10.1995 \ M. Kocian lgt.”. Paratype, male (MNHG): “Guyane Francaise \ Mont Grand Matoury \ 2.–11.10.1995 \ M. Kocian lgt.”.

Diagnosis. Small (TL 1.9–2.0 mm), round, blackish species, externally resembling C. bituberculata sp. nov. Tegmen with basal apodemes, tergite VIII with T-shaped emargination flanked with two denticles. The shape of the emargination allows certain identification of this species. Description. Male. Body oval, convex, covered with whitish, suberect setae. Body brown, legs, antennae and mouthparts yellowish. Head broad, 1.6× wider than width of interocular space, with subtle punctation, punctures small, not granulate, separated by a 3.0–4.0× diameter of a puncture, eyes moderately large, not protuberant. Pronotum transverse, widest at its base. Disc of pronotum with fine, not granulate punctation, punctures separated by ca. 3.0–4.0× diameter of a puncture. Posterior margin of pronotum subtly bisinuate. Anterior angles protruding anteriorly, subtriangular, posterior angles subtly obtuse. Scutellar shield subtriangular, very finely punctate. Elytra oblong, without traces of longitudinal ridges, widest in the middle of their length, sides curved, regularly converging to apex in posterior 1/3. Humeri well marked. Punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures elongate, distance between punctures ca. the diameter of a puncture.

Male genitalia. Penis (L 0.39 mm, W 0.12 mm, Fig. 23A View FIGURE 23 ) relatively wide, with hooked apical portions of parameroids and subtriangular trigonium. Tegmen (L 0.28 mm, W 0.16 mm, Fig. 23B View FIGURE 23 ) U-shaped, with apodemes in basal portion, apices of parameres with long setae. Sternite IX (L 0.23 mm, W 0.12 mm, Fig. 23C View FIGURE 23 ) subtriangular, with single apodeme and numerous setae on apical margin. Tergite VIII (L 0.31 mm, W 0.31 mm, Fig. 23D View FIGURE 23 ) with Ushaped emargination of central portion of basal margin, lateral portions with short setae, apodemes as long as apical plate, diverging. Tergite IX (L 0.28 mm, W 0.27 mm, Fig. 23E View FIGURE 23 ) with membranous and relatively narrow apical plate, apodemes as long as apical plate, diverging.

Female. Unknown.

Measurements and ratios. Males (n = 2) TL 1.90–1.97 (1.93) mm, PL 0.40–0.43 (0.42) mm, PW 0.93–0.97 (0.95) mm, EL 1.63–1.70 (1.67) mm, EW 1.30 (1.30) mm, TL/EW 1.46–1.51 (1.49), PW/PL 2.15–2.42 (2.29), EL/ EW 1.26–1.31 (1.28), EL/PL 3.77–4.25 (4.01).

Distribution. Known from Mt Kaw and Mt Grand Maoury in French Guiana.

Etymology. Named after Mt Kaw, where the type locality of the species is located.
