NOTES: G. Lister (1931: 297) described the new species based on material from the “Palace grounds, Tokyo, July

2, 1930; on dead leaves and rotten wood. Also Bengal and Long Island, U.S.A. ”. She received the Japanese material from “Dr. H. Hattori, of the Biological Laboratory, the Imperial Palace, Tokyo, Japan, with a request that I should identify them, and a note mentioning that all the specimens were collected and examined by the Emperor himself last summer”. Of the second collection she wrote “was collected by the late Mrs. John Drake on dead leaves near Serampore,

Bengala”, and the American collection “was obtained by Dr. Robert Hagelstein, on dead wood, at Albertson, Long

Island , U.S.A., in june 1926 ”. In BM we found the three collections mentioned. From them we designate the Japanes collection as the lectotype as it is the one used for the illustration in the publication (plate 598. 1a–d) and is in the best condition. There are 2 slides from Japan, one dated “July, 1930” and the other “1931” but this may refer to the publication year. In notebook XLV: 103–104 there are notes and illustrations of the Japanese material. In TNS there is one collection ( TNS –M R1290 ), with the same data ( Hagiwara 2005: 84) as the lectotype , that must be a duplicate and so an isolectotype.
