NOTES: Lister (1925: 156) commented that “the typical form and the var. gracile are widely distributed in North Temperate regions; var. gracile has also been recorded from Tasmania ”. In BM 2 boxes ( BM 3317 , BM 4084 ) were located. In the first box are two collections from different dates and we designate the one with the date 16.10.23 as the lectotype since it is in better condition than the other from 10.10.23, and there are notes in notebook XLIII: 55. There was no slide of this collection. In the second box from Tasmania ( BM 4084 ), dated Oct 1914, that does not add var. gracile but the variety is on a slide from the same place and date, and with a reference to the notebook XXXVII: 2. In the notebook there is an illustration and notes so we consider this to be another syntype. The var. gracile , (stalk “slender”) is within the varialbility of the species .
