In BM 4 slides were located, 3 labelled L:B.M.82, two with material from Lyme Regis and Leytonstone that we consider to be original material. The third slide L:B.M.82 is from Epping Forest and is not in the protologue. The fourth slide is from “Wanstead Park, 1.8.90”, not mentioned either in the publication. Two boxes were also located, from “Wanstead Park, Essex, Aug. 1890 ” ( BM 1364 , BM001089765 ) and from “ Epping Forest , July 28.94” ( BM 1365 , BM001089766 ) , neither of which are mentioned in the publication. Boxes BM 443 and BM 447 are not mentioned either in the publication, although in notebook III: 44–45 reference is made to box 447 A from “Wanstead Park Aug. 4.90”. The var. rufescens , with reddish fructifications is currently included in the range of variation of the species S. fusca Roth .

In K (http://apps.kew.org/herbtrack/results) a sample is preserved [K173562, England, 1889, on mossy wood, A. Lister (ex herb. G. Lister) (ex herb. H.J. Howard)], that could be type material.
