Genus Capitolichus Gaud & Atyeo, 1975
Type species: Capitolichus tetroplourus Gaud & Atyeo, 1975 , by original designation.
The genus is currently composed of five species, including the new one described below, associated with New World barbets ( Piciformes : Capitonidae ), and suboscine passerines ( Passeriformes : Cotingidae and Tyrannidae ) ( Gaud & Atyeo 1975, Alzuet et al. 1988): C. tetroplourus Gaud & Atyeo, 1975 from Eubucco bourcierii (Lafresnaye, 1845) , C. biemarginatus ( Mégnin & Trouessart, 1884) from Capito auratus (Dumont, 1805) (Capitonidae) , C. pyroderi ( Mégnin & Trouessart, 1884) from Pyroderus scutatus (Shaw, 1792) (Cotingidae) , and C. pitangus Alzuet et al., 1988 from Pitangus sulphuratus bolivianus (Lafresnaye, 1852) ( Tyrannidae ). The new species described herein is the first one of this genus from a host of the family Picidae (Piciformes) .
