Genus Grenieria Gaud & Mouchet, 1959

Type species: Pterolichus simplex Trouessart, 1886 , by original designation.

Seven Grenieria species have been described, all associated with terns ( Charadriiformes View in CoL : Laridae View in CoL : Sterninae View in CoL ) ( Dabert and Atyeo 1997). The only two species previously reported in the Neotropics are G. simplex (Trouessart, 1886) from Sterna forsteri Nuttal, 1834 View in CoL in Mexico, and G. phaetusae from Phaetusa simplex (Gmelin, 1789) View in CoL in Paraguay ; the remaining Grenieria species are known only from the Northern hemisphere ( Dabert and Atyeo 1997 ; Dabert 2003).
