Saropogon Loew, 1847: 439 View in CoL (as subgenus of Dasypogon View in CoL ). Type-species: Dasypogon luctuosus Wiedemann, 1820 View in CoL . by designation ofCoquillett (1910: 603).

Sarapogon: Williston, 1889: 74 , incorrect spelling.

Hull (1962) provided an excellent and full redescription of the genus. The following keys will separate the afrotropical taxa.
