Megommation insigne ( Smith, 1853)

Halictus insignis Smith, 1853 . Holotype male (OUM) from South America (not examined).

Halictus cherazon Vachal, 1904 . Holotype female (MNHP), from Brazil, Espírito Santo (not examined).

Megalopta virgili Friese, 1911 . Syntype male (ZMB), from Brazil, Santa Catarina, Blumenau (not examined).

Megalopta (Megaloptella) ipomoeae Schrottky, 1912 . Lectotype male and paralectotype female (MZSP) from Brazil, Minas Gerais, Mar de Espanha, hereby designated (examined).

Megalopta pallitarsis Friese, 1926 . Syntype male (ZMB) from Brazil: Espírito Santo and Piauí (not examined).

Diagnosis. M. insigne can be recognized by its dark body coloration and abundant body pubescence ( Figs. 4– 7 ), epistomal suture obtuse and patch of black setae occupying entire outer surface of metatibia. Additional features are listed in the identification key.

Comments. The lectotype male and paralectotype female of Megalopta (Megaloptella) ipomoeae Schrottky, 1912 , both collected in Mar de Espanha (state of Minas Gerais) in VI.1908 by Zikán are hereby designated in order to stabilize the taxonomy of the group. The remaining types from other original localities ( Argentina and Paraguay) were not located and are probably lost (see Rasmussen et al. 2009). Examination of type material for other available names is required in order to confirm the current synonymies. In additional to the literature records, we summarized specimen label information of material deposited in DZUP and MZSP ( Figure 7 ).
