Plectranthus petiolaris Benth. in E.H.F.Meyer, Comm. Pl. Afr. Austr.: 228. 1838. Type: South Africa, Eastern Cape, between Umtata and Umzimvubu Rivers, 1836, Drège 4773b (K lectotype), lectotypified by Codd (1975).

Plectranthus kuntzei Gürke in C.E.O.Kuntze, Revis. Gen. Pl. 3(2): 260. 1898. Type: South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, Clairmont, 18 Oct. 1913, Kuntze s.n. (holotype: NY; isotype: K).
