Lectotype (Prance & Sothers, Sp. Pl. - Fl. World 9: 5. 2003): [icon] " Icaco " in Plumier, Nov. Pl. Amer.: 43, t. 5. 1703. - Epitype (Prance & Sothers, Sp. Pl. - Fl. World 9: 5. 2003): U.S.A. Florida, Indian River, A.H. Curtiss 728 (P; iso- A, F, GH, K, NY, US).

Generitype of Chrysobalanus Linnaeus.

Current name: Chrysobalanus icaco L. View in CoL ( Chrysobalanaceae ).

Note: None of the material in LINN is original for the name so Vidal’s type statement (in Aubréville, Fl. Cambodge Laos Vietnam 6: 195. 1968) is not an effective choice. Prance (in Görts-van-Rijn, Fl. Guianas, ser. A, 2: 6. 1986) indicated 641.1 (LINN) as a neotype, but as there are original elements in existence, this too cannot be accepted. Purohit & Panigrahi, Fam. Rosaceae India 1: 260-261. 1991) indicated Plumier’s t. 158 as “iconotype” on p. 260, and 641.1 LINN as holotype on p. 261, so neither is effective.
