Diagnosis. The only species of Asymmetricata with entire LO in V7 ( Fig. 143 View FIGURES 139–147 ); most similar in dorsal colouration to As. ovalis , both having pale pronota, and dark brown elytra margined narrowly in yellowish orange along lateral and sutural margins and around elytral apex. Female macropterous. Larva with laterally explanate tergal margins ( Fu 2014: 55, 56). Widely distributed across S. E. Asia from India to China.

Female reproductive system and abdomen morphology ( Figs 148−153 View FIGURES 148–153 ). V3−5 almost black, V7 orange; median posterior margin of V8 shallowly and narrowly emarginated; median oviduct plate subtriangular in outline on each side with lateral ‘arms’ appearing like isosceles triangles about as wide at base as high. No bursa plates.

Remarks. This species was the most abundant and widespread firefly species found in the north of Thailand (Nak-eiam 2015) and occupied both natural habitats and human exploited areas, such as agricultural and nearby residential areas. The habitats range from lowland up to lower montane forest.

Fu (2014: 55) illustrated the larvae, and on page 56 the luminous light organ of a female pupa.

Ballantyne & Lambkin (2009: 33) suggested further investigation could consider whether “some form of gradation from entire to at least partially bipartite LO” could exist when they were examining only two similarly coloured species of this genus (viz. As. circumdata , with entire LO in V7, and As. ovalis , with bipartite LO in V7). This ex- panded treatment has presented the opportunity to investigate this from a wider range of specimens (of circumdata only), and indicates only one species in the genus has entire LO in V7 (viz. circumdata ). Specimens examined from Prague collection had the LO in V7 entire but in some cases with a median emargination which may extend posteriorly, and which could have been at least in part due to dehydration (see Fig. 147 View FIGURES 139–147 and Table 7 View TABLE 7 ).

The two males from Mae Hong Son province have three interstitial lines narrowly paler than remainder ( Fig. 144 View FIGURES 139–147 ).
