Amblyseius arenus Muma, 1965: 250 View in CoL ; Moraes et al., 1986: 11, 2004b: 21; Chant & McMurtry, 2004a: 201, 2007: 75 (synonymy according to Muma et al., 1967: 202).
Specimen measured. One of two specimens on the slide labeled as “ holotype ”.
Dorsal shield of female smooth, 384 long. Setal lengths: j1 34, j3 30, j4 6, j5 5, j6 6, J2 6, J5 6, z2 12, z4 11, z5 6, Z1 7, Z4 156, Z5 296, s4 140, S2 11, S4 11, S5 10, r3 14 and R1 11. Peritreme extending to level of j1. Ventrianal shield 120 long, 72 wide. Fixed cheliceral digit with 13 teeth; movable digit with four teeth. Macrosetae of legs I–IV, SgeI 55, SgeII 47, SgeIII 55, SgeIV 125, StiIV 78 and StIV 86 .
Distribution in Brazil. São Paulo ( Flechtmann, 1967d; Mineiro et al., 2006a, 2009a).
Distribution elsewhere. Costa Rica, Cuba, USA and Venezuela.
Remarks. The original description of A. curiosus does not report measurements of the type specimens. Measurements of one of the specimens of the slide labeled as “ holotype ” are similar to those provided by Denmark & Muma (1989), except for their measurements of j1 and j3 (ca. 40–60% longer); additionally, in our notations resulting from the examination of the holotype, the spermathecal calyx is indicated as 4 µm long, which is much less than indicated by those authors (20 µm), which seems to be due to the light sclerotisation of most of the structure. The measurements given by Demard et al. (2021) are close to those here provided for the type specimen; their measurement of the calyx was about 23 µm.
