Daidalotarsonemus ostracodes Mahunka, 1972: 90 ; Lindquist, 1986: 320; Lin & Zhang, 2002: 62.

Diagnosis. Female: Gnathosoma : Palpal length about 1/4 length of gnathosoma. Dorsum: Ornamentation pattern of prodorsum difficult to discern due to slide condition. Tergite C with cells grouped between setae c1. Tergite D scarcely ornamented. Setae v1, sc2, c1, c2 and h unmodified in shape. Setae v1 as long as sc2 (~ 30). Setae c1 and c2 slightly different in length (~ 15 and ~ 18, respectively). Setae c1 inserted near midlength of tergite C. Setae d, e and f leaf-shaped. Setae d and f similar in shape (lanceolate with two lateral veins), but different in length (~ 35 and ~ 31, respectively) and width (~ 10 and ~ 6, respectively). Setae e asymmetrical in shape, length (~18) and width (~17). Setae f ~7 distant from each other on rounded tubercles. Venter: Tegula truncate. All apodemes distinct. Apodemes 2 not fused to prosternal apodeme. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly. Legs: sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete. Seta tc” of tarsus II serrate. Male & larva: unknown.

Redescription:

Gnathosoma : subtriangular in ventral view, length 25, maximum width 17. Setae dgs 10 and vgs 7 smooth; palps length 10, with two small subterminal setae and terminal projections. Pharynx length 15, maximum width 8.

Idiosoma—dorsum: length 188, width at level of c1 122. Ornamentation pattern of prodorsum difficult to discern due to slide condition. Tergite C covered with reticulation. Tergite D with coarse ornamentation. Lengths of setae: v1 28, sc1 12, sc2 30, c1 15, c2 18, d 35, e 18, f 31 and h 24. Maximum widths of expanded setae: d 10, e 17 and f 6. All dorsal setae serrate; except for sc2, c1 and c2 smooth. Setae v1, c1, c2 and h slender; d and f ensiform with two veins; e asymmetric. All inserted on tubercles, except for c1 and c2. Distances between dorsal setae: v1–v1 21, sc2–sc2 48, v1–sc2 40, c1–c1 49, c2–c2 105, c1–c2 38, d–d 23, f–f 7, e–f 11 and h–h 14. Insertion point of setae sc1 not clearly defined (due to poor slide condition).

Idiosoma—venter: setae 1a 10; 2a 13; 3a 18 near anteromedial margins of apodemes 3; 3b 11 on posterior ends of apodemes 4. Apodeme 1 conspicuous, fused to anterior end of prosternal apodeme. Apodeme 2 short and not fused to prosternal apodeme. Prosternal apodeme conspicuous from junction with apodeme 1 to sejugal apodeme. Sejugal apodeme uninterrupted. Apodeme 3 extending diagonally from proximity of base of seta 3a to anterior margin of trochanter III. Apodeme 4 extending diagonally from midlength of poststernal apodeme to base of seta 3b. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly. Tegula 16 wide, 6 long; posterior margin slightly arched. Setae ps 9 barbed.

Legs: Lengths: leg I 41, leg II 36, leg III 84. Number of setae, at least: leg I: 3-2-4(2)+4, leg II: 3-3-4-4(1), leg III: 1+2-4-4. Due to slide condition, it was not possible to count precisely all setae on tibiotarsus I. Sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete, solenidion φ1 2, slender, capitate; solenidion φ2 3, robust, slightly capitate; famulus k 6; all inserted at approximately same level. Seta d of tibiotarsus I 17, serrate. Solenidion ω of tarsus II length 4. Seta d of tibia II 20, smooth. Femorogenu IV 14; tibiotarsus IV 9. Length of leg IV setae: v’ F 10, v’ G 21, v´ Ti 26 and tc” 40; all setae smooth, except for v’ Ti tapered.

Type material deposition: holotype ♀ deposited at HNHM .

Locality: Baiyer River Sanctuary, Western Highlands Province, Papua-New Guinea ( Mahunka 1972).
