Diagnosis. Female: Gnathosoma : Palpal length about 1/4 length of gnathosoma. Dorsum: Reticulate ornamentation on prodorsum, tergites C and D. Tergite C with four transverse rows of well-defined cells grouped between setae c1, and same number of cells per row (four). Tergite D with four transverse rows of well-defined cells grouped anteriad setae d, and same number of reticula per row (two). Setae v1, sc2, c1, c2 and h unmodified in shape. Setae v1 as long as sc2 (~ 30). Setae c1, c2 and h slightly different in length (~ 25, ~ 21 and ~23, respectively). Setae c1 inserted near midlength of tergite C. Setae d, e and f leaf-shaped. Setae d unique linear, length (~42) and width (~ 7). Setae e asymmetrical in shape, width (~26), shorter than d and f, but longer than h (~ 25). Setae f linear, length (~45) and width (~ 4). Setae f ~13 distant from each other, on rounded tubercles. Venter: Tegula truncate, slightly arched posteriorly. Apodemes distinct, except for prosternal apodeme weakened. Apodemes 2 not fused to prosternal apodeme. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly. Legs: sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete. Seta tc” of tarsus II serrate. Male & larva: unknown.

Description (two specimens measured):

Gnathosoma : length 36 (36–37), maximum width 29 (29–30). Setae dgs 13 and vgs 7 smooth; palps length 11, with two small subterminal setae and terminal projections. Pharynx length 13 (12–15), maximum width 7.

Idiosoma—dorsum: length 204 (200–207), width at level of c1 108 (106–110). Prodorsal shield with reticulate ornamentation, covers gnathosoma. Tergites C and D reticulate medially. Lengths of setae: v1 29 (27–31), sc1 16, sc2 31 (30–33), c1 25 (25–26), c2 21 (20–22), d 42 (41–44), e 24 (22–26), f 45 and h 23 (21–24). Maximum widths of expanded setae: d 7, e 26 and f 4. All dorsal setae serrate, except for c2. Setae v1, sc2, c1, c2 and h slender; d ensiform; e asymmetrical; f linear. All inserted on tubercles, except for h. Distances between dorsal setae: v1–v1 33, sc2–sc2 53 (51–55), v1–sc2 30 (29–32), c1–c1 48 (46–50), c2–c2 103 (100–105), c1–c2 38 (36–40), d–d 40 (39–41), f–f 13, e–f 15 and h–h 19 (19–20). Setae sc2 inserted slightly anteriorly to sc1.

Idiosoma—venter: setae 1a 6; 2a 11 (11–12); 3a 16 near anteromedial margins of apodemes 3; 3b 12 on posterior ends of apodemes 4. Apodemes 1 conspicuous, not fused to anterior end of prosternal apodeme.Apodemes 2 short and not fused to prosternal apodeme. Prosternal apodeme inconspicuous in most of its extension. Sejugal apodeme uninterrupted. Apodeme 3 extending diagonally from proximity of base of seta 3a to (but not laterally beyond) anterior margin of trochanter III. Apodeme 4 extending diagonally from midlength of poststernal apodeme to base of seta 3b. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly. Tegula 15 (15–16) wide and 4 long; posterior margin slightly arched. Setae ps 18 barbed.

Legs: Lengths: leg I 65 (64–67), leg II 58 (56–60), leg III 94 (92–96). Number of setae: leg I: 3-4-6(2)+7(1), leg II: 3-3-4-4(1), leg III: 1+3-4-4. Tarsal solenidion ω of tibiotarsus I 6. Sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete, solenidion φ1 2, slender, capitate; solenidion φ2 3, robust, slightly capitate; famulus k 5; k more distal than others. Seta d of tibiotarsus I 26 (25–28), serrate. Solenidion ω of tarsus II length 5. Seta d of tibia II 20 (19–21), serrate. Femorogenu IV 22; tibiotarsus IV 12 (11–14). Length of leg IV setae: v’ F 13 (11–14), v’ G 20, v´ Ti 28 (27–30) and tc” 37 (36–39); all setae smooth, except for v’ G; v’ Ti tapered.

Type material deposition: Holotype ♀ and one paratype ♀ deposited at USNM.

Locality: All specimens found on samples of Orchidaceae sp. intercepted by USDA quarantine system from Thailand (holotype) and Taiwan (paratype) .

Etymology: The species name malikulae is in honor of Nit Malikul (SEL-USDA) for all her years of technical support in the study of mites.
