Daidalotarsonemus hewitti Mahunka, 1974

( Figs. 59–61 View FIGURE 59 )

Daidalotarsonemus hewitti Mahunka, 1974: 191 ; Lindquist, 1986: 320; Lin & Zhang, 2002: 60.

Diagnosis. Female: Gnathosoma : Palpal length about length of gnathosoma. Dorsum: Coarse ornamentation on prodorsum. Tergite C with cells grouped between setae c1. Tergite D weakly ornamented. Setae v1, sc2, c2 and h unmodified in shape. Setae v1 longer than sc2 (~ 35 and ~ 27, respectively). Setae c1 shorter than c2 (~ 12 and ~ 16, respectively). Setae c1 inserted near midlength of tergite C. Setae d, e and f leaf-shaped. Setae d and f different in shape from each other (linear and enlarged lanceolate, respectively), their width (~ 4 and ~ 10, respectively), but similar in length (~ 28). Setae e unique in shape (elliptical), length (~ 17), and width (~ 11). Setae f ~14 distant from each other. Venter: Tegula truncate, slightly arched posteriorly. All apodemes distinct. Apodemes 2 not fused to prosternal apodeme. Poststernal apodeme not bifurcated anteriorly. Legs: sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete. Seta tc” of tarsus II distinctly slender and serrate. Male & larva: unknown.

Redescription:

Gnathosoma : rounded in ventral view, length 32, maximum width 29. Setae dgs 9 and vgs 6 smooth; palps length 10, with two small subterminal setae and terminal projections. Pharynx length 19 maximum width 10.

Idiosoma—dorsum: length 199, width at level of c1 110. Prodorsal shield with coarse ornamentation. Setae sc1 inserted at same level to sc2. Tergite C with three transverse rows of cells between level of setae c1. Tergite D ornamented with longitudinal depressions. Lengths of setae: v1 35, sc1 11, sc2 27, c1 12, c2 16, d 28, e 17, f 28 and h 14. Maximum widths of expanded setae: d 4, e 11 and f 10. All dorsal setae serrate; except for c1 and c2 smooth. Setae h coarsely barbed. Setae v1, sc2, c1, c2 and h slender; d linear with one central vein; e elliptical; f enlarged lanceolate with two veins. Distances between dorsal setae: v1–v1 32, sc2–sc2 55, v1–sc2 33, c1–c1 59, c2–c2 123, c1–c2 40, d–d 41, f–f 14, e–f 13 and h–h 28.

Idiosoma—venter: setae 1a 7; 2a 10; 3a 13 near anteromedial margins of apodemes 3; 3b 7 on posterior ends of apodemes 4. Apodemes 1 conspicuous, fused to anterior end of prosternal apodeme. Apodemes 2 not fused to prosternal apodeme. Prosternal apodeme conspicuous from junction to sejugal apodeme. Sejugal apodeme uninterrupted, with a median furrow. Apodeme 3 extending diagonally from proximity of base of seta 3a to anterior margin of trochanter III. Apodeme 4 extending diagonally from midlength of poststernal apodeme to base of seta 3b. Poststernal apodeme not bifurcated anteriorly. Tegula 19 wide and 5 long; posterior margin slightly arched. Setae ps 15 smooth.

Legs: Lengths: leg I 47, leg II 45, leg III 81. Number of setae: leg I: 3-4-4(2)+7(1), leg II: 3-3-4-4(1), leg III: 1-4-4. Due to type condition, it was not possible to count all setae on tibiotarsus I and femorogenu III precisely. Tarsal solenidion ω of tibiotarsus I 4. Sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete, solenidion φ1 3, slender, capitate; solenidion φ2 4, robust, slightly capitate; famulus k 5; all inserted at approximately same level. Seta d of tibiotarsus I 14, smooth. Solenidion ω of tarsus II length 4. Seta d of tibia II 20, serrate. Femorogenu IV 15; tibiotarsus IV 12. Length of leg IV setae: v’ F 7, v’ G 15, v´ Ti 22 and tc” 45; all setae smooth; v’ Ti tapered.

Type material deposition: holotype ♀ deposited at HNHM .

Locality: Sheviock, Cornwall, England ( Mahunka 1974).
