Opistognathus sp. —Chinstrap jawfish

STATUS AT MADANG. Same as Opistognathus sp. 6 of Allen & Erdmann (2012: 357). Undescribed species, photographed by D. Uyeno at Tabad Island on 12 Dec. 2012.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia east to Palau, Fiji and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia). Burying in sand or coral rubble areas near coral reefs, 5– 60 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. Originally described from Madang by Smith-Vaniz (1989: 401, figs. 1g, 9e, 16); a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen, St. PS-48. ASNP, BPBM, NTUM and USNM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Endemic to Madang District, Papua View in CoL New Guinea. Burying in sand or coral rubble areas near coral reefs, 25– 30 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. Originally described from Madang by Smith-Vaniz (1989: 403, figs. 9f, 17). BPBM material.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Known only from Madang District, Papua New Guinea. Burying in sand or coral rubble areas near coral reefs, 29 m. Marine.

Priacanthus hamrur (Forsskål in Niebuhr, 1775) —Crescent-tail bigeye STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens photographed at St. CTR 15, CTR 20, CTR 33, PR 105.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Marquesas and Gambier islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia), Lord Howe Island and Tonga. Found on seaward slopes in coral or rocky reef habitats, 8– 250 m. Marine.
