STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang and New Guinea, based on specimens collected by W.-J. Chen on 20 Nov. 2012, St. PP-6. NTUM material (NTUM 10002).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Papua New Guinea. Found on mud or sand bottom in the lagoon, 40– 150 m. Marine.

Parascolopsis melanophrys Russell & Chin, 1996 —Dwarf monocle bream

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang and New Guinea, based on a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen on 20 Nov. 2012. NTUM material (NTUM 10011).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Sabah ( Malaysia); West Timor ( Indonesia); Madang ( Papua New Guinea). Bathydemersal, 200– 500 m. Marine.

Pentapodus aureofasciatus Russell, 2001 View in CoL —Yellow-striped whiptail

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens photographed at St. CTR 15. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, on coral rubble near coral reefs, 2– 35 m. Marine.

Pentapodus caninus View in CoL ( Cuvier View in CoL in Cuvier View in CoL & Valenciennes, 1830) —Small-toothed whiptail STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Kailola (1975: 147). KFRS and USNM material; also photographed by A. Berberian, and by P. Laboute on 8 Dec. 2012.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Marshall Islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, in silty coral reef areas and lagoon habitats, 3– 35 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 14, CTR 17, CTR 27; a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen at Madang Resort. NTUM and WAM material (NTUM 10094; WAM P.29624-030).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Caroline and Solomon islands, north to Philippines. Solitary or in pairs, in coastal coral reef and lagoon habitats, 2– 30 m. Marine.

Scolopsis bilineata (Bloch, 1793) —Two-lined monocle bream

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 0 3, CTR 0 4, CTR 0 5, CTR 0 7, CTR 0 8, CTR 0 9, CTR 13, CTR 14, CTR 15, CTR 16, CTR 17, CTR 21, CTR 22, CTR 23, CTR 25, CTR 32, CTR 36; also photographed by A. Berberian.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Maldives and Sri Lanka east to Caroline Islands and Fiji, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Solitary or in small groups, in sand-rubble areas adjacent to coral reefs. Juveniles mimic Meiacanthus grammistes , 0– 25 m. Marine.

Scolopsis ciliata (Lacepède, 1802) —Whitestreak monocle bream

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang as Scolopsis ciliatus by Parenti & Allen (1991: 319). Specimens photographed at St. CTR 19; a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen at Madang Resort. CAS, NTUM and WAM material.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Andaman Sea east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, on sand bottom adjacent to coral reefs, 0– 25 m. Transitional water and marine.

Scolopsis lineata Quoy & Gaimard, 1824 —Striped monocle bream

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen photographed by A. Berberian. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Andaman Sea east to Caroline Islands and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, on sand bottoms adjacent to coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1– 20 m. Marine.

Scolopsis margaritifer ( Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1830) —Pearly monocle bream STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 0 5, CTR 13B. USNM material (USNM 227589, 228671, 335648).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Andaman Sea east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia. Solitary or in groups, on sand bottoms adjacent to coastal or lagoon coral reefs, 2– 25 m. Marine.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia and New Guinea east to Fiji, south to New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, in sand-rubble areas adjacent to coastal or lagoon coral reefs, 2– 30 m. Marine.
