TYPE LOCALITY: U.S.A., Colorado, Fremont Co., Arkansas River, about 26 mi. (42 km) below Canyon City .

DISTRIBUTION: Montane W. North America, from C. British Columbia to S. New Mexico in the Rocky Mtns., and the Columbia River south to S. California and Nevada.

COMMENT: Subgenus Callospermophilus ; see Hall, 1981:406. Gromov et al., 1965: 150, considered Callospermophilus a subgenus of the genus Otospermophilus .
