TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., Kazakh. S.S. R., E. of Mugodzhary Mtns., near Kuvandzhur River .

DISTRIBUTION: Kazakhstan ( U.S. S.R.), from the Caspian Sea and the Volga River to Lake Balkash south to N. E. Iran, and N. Afghanistan; Sinkiang ( China).

COMMENT: Subgenus Colobotis ; see Gromov et al., 1965:276. Hall, 1981:381, included Colobotis in subgenus Spermophilus .
