Allometopon tropalis Sasakawa 1974: 158 View in CoL .
Allometopon tropale View in CoL . Pitkin & Evenhuis 1989: 535 [catalogue, Australasia/Pacific, unnecessary emendation—no gender correction for Greek adjectives].
Description. General: ( Figs 284–287 View FIGURES 284 – 290 ) Body length 2.5–2.8mm (holotype, paratype). Arista pubescent. M1+2 ratio 5.0. First flagellomere high, elongate oval, with dorsal margin particularly extended. Female unknown.
Chaetotaxy: Three fronto-orbital setae, anterior seta half length. Ocellar seta short. Postvertical seta absent. Interfrontal seta absent. First flagellomere along distal margin with hairs longer than width of base of arista. Anterior dorsocentral seta half length of posterior seta; closely set posteriorly. Two pairs lateral scutellar setae, anterior seta small. Four pairs of very thin vibrissae that spread out from head in horizontal plane ( Figs 284, 285 View FIGURES 284 – 290 ). Paratype with most setae broken, missing; apparently only one pair relatively stout vibrissae.
Colour: Setae yellow. Head light yellow with antenna (including arista) and head below frons whitish, frons paler anteriorly and ocellar tubercle dark brown; gena and postgena silvery tomentose. Scutum yellow with wide central brown stripe that is emarginate laterally at suture. Scutellum brown, adjacent scutum yellowish laterally. Metanotum light brown below scutellum, fading to yellow ventrally. Wing with slight infuscation that is apparently darker in paratype. Pleuron and legs light yellow. Abdomen brown to tergite 5, brownish on tergite 1 and from tergite 6 to terminalia, with surstylus, cercus and distal region of epandrium yellowish; tergite 1 yellow.
Male terminalia: ( Figs 288–290 View FIGURES 284 – 290 ) Surstylus slightly higher than wide, widest on distal 4/5, rounded with apex slightly truncate; small, thin process branching off surstylus at base; anterior margin on distal half with several long, stout setae; inner medial surface with whorl of stout and tubercle-like setae. Hypandrium well-developed with single seta. Phallapodeme relatively short, apically widened to enclose broad cavernous space. Pregonite elongate, undulating, with two apical or subapical setae. Postgonite lobate with one seta. Basiphallus welldeveloped. Epiphallus and distiphallus not evident in illustration. Paraphallus elongate, relatively stout, curved and minutely spinulose dorsally.
Distribution: Papua New Guinea (Bismarck Islands).
