Description. General: ( Figs 315, 316 View FIGURES 315 – 320. 315, 316 ) Body length approximately 3.7mm. Arista pubescent. M1+2 ratio 5.6. First flagellomere enlarged, produced anterodorsally especially, nearly triangular. Female clypeus broad, thick. Male unknown.
Chaetotaxy: Most cephalic setae missing. Three fronto-orbital setae with anterior fronto-orbital smaller. Ocellar seta minute and hair-like. Postvertical absent. Interfrontal seta minute. Anterior dorsocentral half length of posterior dorsocentral; closely set posteriorly. Acrostichal seta and all setulae behind level of anterior dorsocentral absent. One lateral scutellar seta.
Colour: Setae light brown to brown. Base colour of head dirty yellow to orange-yellow; arista white; first flagellomere and pedicel dark brown above point of pedicel on outer surface and on dorsal 1/3 of inner surface; frons dark brown with medial yellow stripe ending before large dark brown ocellar tubercle, broad yellowish region behind tubercle, and along eye; face brownish; gena white and silvery tomentose; palpus dark brown; back of head dark brown above foramen. Notum dark brown, with broad orange tint along lateral margin of scutum (extreme margin thinly yellowish) and scutellum. Pleuron yellowish-white with proepisternum dark brown around seta, anepisternum dark brown with anterior region white, ventral margin white and dorsal margin yellow, and anepimeron dark brown with dorsal region yellowish. Prosternum dark brown. Legs yellow with coxae and basal half of femora white. Abdomen mostly yellow (tergite 8 not visible); tergites 1–3 brown; tergite 4 brown laterally, posteriorly, and with wide brown dorsal stripe that narrows anteriorly; tergite 5 brown laterally and with brown posteromedial spot; tergite 6 brown laterally; tergite 7 dark brown.
Female terminalia: Not dissected.
Etymology: See etymology for A. philomela .
Distribution: New Caledonia.
Holotype: NEW CALEDONIA. Prov. Nord: Mt. Mandjélia, 6km WSW Paebo, 20˚24′09ʺS, 164˚30′54ʺE, malaise, 545m, 18–19.i.1996, M.E. Irwin, D.W. Webb (1♀, AMSA).
