Allometopon glochis View in CoL spec. nov.

Figs 85–89 View FIGURES 85 – 89

Description. General: ( Figs 85, 86 View FIGURES 85 – 89 ) Body length 3.0(♂)–3.5(♀)mm. Arista short plumose. M1+2 ratio 3.8–3.9. First flagellomere slightly enlarged with venter broader. Female clypeus broad, thick.

Chaetotaxy: Three fronto-orbital setae with anterior seta half length. Ocellar seta twice length of tubercle. Postvertical slightly shorter than length of tubercle. First flagellomere with marginal hairs on distal half longer than width of base of arista. Anterior dorsocentral half length of posterior seta; closely set posteriorly. Acrostichal seta well-developed. One inset lateral scutellar seta.

Colour—male: Head below antenna yellowish-white; ocellar tubercle brown; first flagellomere whitish (including anterior margin) with outer surface brown above point of pedicel, and inner surface brown dorsally and dorsobasally; back of head with one pair of brown stripes radiating from foramen; parafacial, gena and postgena silvery tomentose. Notum with reddish-brown tint, scutum more yellowish anteriorly, and scutum and apex of scutellum sometimes with yellowish mottling. Pleuron yellowish-white with brownish-red subnotal stripe. Legs yellowish-white with base of femora and coxae paler. Wing slightly infuscated with anterior margin darker. Halter white. Abdomen brown with tergite 1 pale reddish-brown, and cercus and surstylus yellowish-white.

Colour—female: As described for male except as follows: darker overall, frons and antenna with orange tint; dorsal 1/3 of antenna dark brown; halter appearing mottled brown (likely an artifact of preservation); mid and hind femora with brownish subapical band; abdomen dark brown with terminalia yellow.

Male terminalia: ( Figs 87–89 View FIGURES 85 – 89 ) Annulus well-developed. Epandrium broadly rounded, wider than high. Cerci small, convergent, rounded, with short setae. Surstylus approximately as high as epandrium; shape relatively narrow and pointed with broad posteromedial lobe that is curved medially; apex and posteromedial margin with small tubercle-like setae on inner-distal face. Stout hypandrial arm approximately as long as large, triangular ventral lobe, which has one small distomedial and two small apical setae; inner surface of lobe with folds adjoining phallapodeme. Phallapodeme rod-like, well-developed with shield held close to shaft along most of length. Pregonite narrow with several small distomedial setae and base that extends along inner surface of hypandrial lobe. Postgonite long and narrow with two apical setae. Basiphallus short and globular; venter produced to suspend small, clear epiphallus. Distiphallus approximately 2/3 length of phallapodeme, with lateral margin extended as shallow membranous fold. Paraphallus long and relatively broad, with much of dorsal surface past base spinulose.

Female terminalia: Not dissected.

Etymology: The specific epithet is Greek for "point of an arrow", in reference to the shape of the surstylus.

Distribution: Madagascar.

Holotype: MADAGASCAR. [Analanjirofo Region:]: Maroantaetra, 18–26.x.1987, SFMcE.JRD.SA (1♂, AMSA).

Paratypes: MADAGASCAR. same collection as holotype (1♂ 1♀, AMSA; 1♂, CNC).

Comments: Allometopon glochis , A. fuscinum ( Fig. 64 View FIGURES 64 – 68 ) and A. female 5 (Fig. 329) are the only Allometopon known from Madagascar. These species are characterized by one pair of lateral scutellar setae and a reddish to brownish scutum. Males are known for the first two, which have a ventrally projecting hypandrium and similar morphology of the epiphallus and distiphallus. Allometopon fuscinum can be differentiated by a brown male clypeus, brown setae, a longer stripe on the first flagellomere and a trifid surstylus.
