CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Pegomya hyoscyami ( Panzer, 1809) ( Gorodkov et al. 1995: 8) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Pegomya conformis (Fallén, 1825) View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 79, Evenhuis & Pape 2020).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 162) proposed Chorthophila chenopodii for Pegomya hyoscyami ( Panzer, 1809) sensu Robineau-Desvoidy (1830: 598) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Robineau-Desvoidy’s redescription of Pegomya hyoscyami , which was based on an unspecified number of specimens, and to an unspecified number of specimens in his collection. Therefore, the type material should be in the collections of Robineau-Desvoidy (MNHN) and Rondani. No specimen labeled as Pegomya hyoscyami is present in Robineau-Desvoidy’s collection in the MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020). Hennig (1973a: 578) reported two males and one female labeled as Chorthophila chenopodii in the MZUF. Michelsen (1980b: 304) designated a lectotype reporting: “Rondani’s collection contains 2 ♂ and 3 ♀ syntypes bearing labels reading “1204”. I have labeled and now designated as lectotype a ♂ syntype … which has already been labeled as lectotype (not effectuated!) by W. Hennig. 2 ♀ paralectotypes are correctly associated, whereas the remaining 1 ♂ and 1 ♀ paralectotypes belong to Pegomya exilis (Meigen) ”. Both Hennig and Michelsen reported two MZUF males but we found only one. Michelsen did not mention a female in the MZUF and a male and a female in the MSNC (all are paralectotypes). He also reported two slides numbered 23 and 24 in Box “ Diptera Rondani 1” but these are missing. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Chorthophila , which is an “unjustified emendation of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 57).
