ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 158 (key), 167 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 23): Chorthophila Mcq. / laminifera Rnd. , Parma / 1222 / Delia laminifera Rondani , Holotypus.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Delia cardui ( Meigen, 1826) View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 41, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 6).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 167) described Chorthophila laminifera from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Semel marem inveni [I found the male once]”. Hennig (1974a: 769) reported having examined the MZUF type material and probably labeled the single male as “ holotype ” but, as far as we know, he never indicated this specimen as the holotype in any of his publication. We consider it as a syntype because Rondani did not specify he had a single specimen. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Chorthophila , which is an “unjustified emendation of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 57).
