Corthophila grisella Rondani, 1871 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871a: 328.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 23): Chorthophila [sic!] Mcq. / grisella Rnd., Appen. [= Apennines] / 1217.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Adia grisella View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 14, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 5).

REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 328) described Corthophila grisella from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Marem tantum inveni [I found the male only]”. In his redescription of the species Rondani (1877c: 220) reported: “ Mares aliquos tantum legi in montuosis agri parmensis [I collected only a few males in the Parmese mountains]”. We found one syntype in this study. An additional MZUF male numbered “1217” and labeled “Asch 5.[1]875” is not included in the type series because it was collected at Asch [= Aš, Czech Republic] by F. Kowarz and later donated to Rondani ( Hennig 1974c: 905, Claussen & Thomson 1996: 280). Hennig (1967b: 164) considered the two MZUF males as belonging to the type series. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Corthophila ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 65).
