ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1877c: 197 (key), 206 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus prope Varallum [ Alps near Varallo (= Vercelli, Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 23): Chorthophila [sic!] Mcq. / limbatella n., Varallo / 1205.

CURRENT STATUS: Bezzi & Stein (1907: 705) reported it as an unrecognized species of Pegomya View in CoL in their Palaearctic Diptera View in CoL catalog; Hennig did not include it in his monograph on Palaearctic Anthomyiidae View in CoL ; Dely-Draskovits (1993) did not list it.

REMARKS: Rondani (1877c: 206) described Chortophila limbatella from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Faeminam tantum legi [I collected the female only]”. One syntype was found in this study.
