REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 180) described both sexes of Hylemyia penicillaris , from an unspecified number of specimens: “… capta in planitie et collibus agri parmensis . Bononiae etiam a Tacchetti, et Brixiae ab Erra [collected in Parmese hills and plains, also collected in Bologna by Tacchetti, and in Brescia by Erra]”. Hennig (1974b: 868) reported two males and five females in the MZUF and designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (1 ♂, 5 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional two males and one female in the MZUF and one male and one female in the MSNC (all are paralectotypes). Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Hylemyia ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Hylemya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 or subsequent usage of Hylemyia Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 99).
