Heleomyzidae View in CoL View at ENA

Though the identity of this family, proposed by Westwood in 1840, is quite uncertain ( McAlpine 2007) it contains, nonetheless, more than 750 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020) predominantly from temperate northern regions but also some from the Neotropical and Australasian regions. In his “ Stirps Scatophaginae ”, rather than in the family Heleomyzidae, Rondani (1866d) described nine Palaearctic nominal species. Two are currently considered as valid, six as junior synonyms and one as doubtful ( Gorodkov 1984b, Canzoneri et al. 1995). In his paper on the Rondani types at MZUB, Morge (1959b) listed one unpublished name (nomen nudum) of Rondani. Papp (1980) designated a lectotype for Helomyza tuberiperda Rondani, 1866 in the MZUF. The type material has been recovered for all nominal species and is in the MZUF; additional syntypes of one species are in the MZLU.
