REMARKS: Rondani (1878a: 158) described Ornithomyia hatamensis from two specimens: “ exemplaria duo observata … inventa a Cel. O. Beccari [I observed two specimens … collected by Mr. O. Beccari]”. Guiglia (1957: 196) reported the MSNG specimen of Ornithomyia hatamensis as “ holotype ”, without knowing of an additional female in the MZUF. She unambiguously selected a single specimen in the type series to serve as the namebearing type and therefore this specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5). Maa (1963: 37) examined the MSNG and MZUF material for Ornithomyia hatamensis and reported that Guiglia fixed the lectotype. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Ornithomyia ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Ornithomya Latreille, 1804 or subsequent usage of Ornithomyia Agassiz, 1846 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 133).
