ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1878a: 162.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Hatam in Nova Guinea [Hatam, New Guinea]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): N. Guinea, Hatam., VI 1875, Beccari / Olfersia papuana Rnd. / Typus / papuana Rdn. / Olfersia papuana Rndn. , typus! / Lynchia plana Wk. (= papuana Rndn. ), ♀, T. C. Maa, [19]62.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Icosta plana Walker, 1861 ( Maa 1989a: 786) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1878a: 162) described Olfersia papuana , from a single specimen without specifying its sex: “ Unicum exemplar speciei observavi … captum a Cel. O. Beccari [I observed a single specimen of the species … collected by Mr. O. Beccari]”. Guiglia (1957: 195), Raineri & Rey (1996: 38) and Maa (1963: 54) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG.
