More than 3,200 species have been described worldwide in this family ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1856) described one Palaearctic species, considered as valid ( Chvála & Wagner 1989; Pesarini et al. 1995; Yang et al. 2007). Rondani did not cover this family in his Prodromus . In his paper on the Rondani types at MZUB, Morge (1959b) listed four unpublished names (nomina nuda ) of Rondani. The type material has presumably been lost.
