REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 462) described Ceratopogon agas from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens but surely from more than one: “ exemplaria plura a me observata [I observed more than one specimen]”, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 194) reported the “type” and many “cotypes” in the MSNG while Raineri & Rey (1996: 34) reported one female type and just one cotype. None of these authors unambiguously identified a single specimen from the type series to serve as the name-bearing type and therefore did not publish a lectotype designation (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5). We found 37 syntypes in this study.
