This worldwide family of acalyptrate flies has 562 predominantly tropical species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1856, 1863) described two South American and one Palaearctic nominal species in his “ Stirps Loncheinae ”. Two nominal species are currently considered as valid and one as junior synonym ( Soós 1968, Soós 1984d, Canzoneri et al. 1995, Lonsdale & Marshall 2008). The family Clusiidae was proposed by Handlirsch (1884). Árpád Soós examined the MZUF type material without publishing any results. Here, we designate a lectotype for Peratochetus lutescens Rondani, 1856 . The type material is distributed among the MZUN (two) and MZUF (one).
