ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 13.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing abdomen) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Sirfidei - Gen. Xylota a Conops ): Conops segethi Rnd. , Valdivia / M. Zool. N° 11300 / ♂; 1 ♀, syntype (dirty, covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Sirfidei - Gen. Xylota a Conops ): ♀.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Physocephala segethi View in CoL ( Papavero 1971: 8, Stuke 2017: 93).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 13) described Conops segethi , without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi, to whom he attributed the species name. Costa (1866: 32) listed two MZUN specimens (as Conops segethi Phil. ) numbered “654”. Stuke (2017: 93) reported one male and one female in the MZUN. We also found two syntypes in this study.
