ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 68.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Valdivia [ Valdivia (Chile) ]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Bombilidei B 03, 03): Bombylius valdivianus Rnd , Valdivia / M. Zool. N° 11093 .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Parasystoechus valdivianus View in CoL ( Evenhuis & Greathead 1999: 163, 2015: 173).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 68) described Bombylius valdivianus , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi, to whom he attributed the species name. Costa (1866: 37) listed a single MZUN specimen (as Bombylius valdivianus Phil. ) numbered “851”. Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 163) reported the specimen in the MZUN to be a holotype.
