ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 58.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Surinam [ Suriname]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MZUN: Box Antracidei A 03,01): Hyperalonia surinamensis Rnd. , Surinam / M. Zool. N° 43078 .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Evenhuis & Greathead 1999: 400, 2015: 415).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 58) described Hyperalonia surinamensis , without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from J.M.F. Bigot. Costa (1866: 37) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “827”. O’Hara et al. (2011: 214) ascribed this nominal species to the genus Exoprosopa Macquart, 1840 in error. Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 400) reported the specimen in the MZUN to be a holotype.
