ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 69.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Bombilidei B 03, 03): Triplasius ornatus Rnd , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 11096 .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Triploechus heteronevrus Macquart, 1850 View in CoL ( Evenhuis & Greathead 1999: 187, 2015: 197).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 69) described Triplasius ornatus , without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 37) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “846”. Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 187) reported the specimen in the MZUN to be a holotype.
