ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 29.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but the work deals with South American species .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species in Calliphoridae ( James 1970: 16) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 29) considered a specimen received from R.A. Philippi as either a variety of Somomya chilensis (Macquart, 1843) or as a separate species, which he named Somomya philippiana . We did not find any specimen under the name Somomya philippiana in any of the museums we visited. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen (as Somomyia [sic!] chilensis Macq. ) numbered “698”, which could be the type for Somomya philippiana .
