CURRENT STATUS: preoccupied by Thomson, 1868; junior synonym of Geomyza tripunctata Fallén, 1823 ( Soós 1984e: 56) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1875a: 252) described Geomyza pictipennis without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens he had collected. He also received one specimen from P.J.M. Macquart. Árpád Soós examined the MZUF type material in 1979 adding the label “ lectotypus ” and “ paralectotypus ” under the specimens, but did not publish the designation (E.P. Nartshuk & J.W.A. van Zuijlen, pers. comm., 2012). Van Zuijlen also studied the type material without publishing any results (J.W.A. van Zuijlen, pers. comm., February, 2013). We found seven MZUF syntypes in this study. In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to Á. Soós and here designate as a lectotype for Geomyza pictipennis Rondani, 1875 the male labeled as such by him.
