Myiodella brachialis Rondani, 1873 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1873e: 290.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Keren [Keren ( Eritrea)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MSNG): Bogos 1870, Keren, O. Beccari / Typus / Myodella [sic!] brachialis Rond. / Myodella [sic!] brachialis .

PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 72): Myodella [sic!] Rnd. / brachialis Rnd., Abiss. / Bogos 1870, Keren, O. Beccari / [no identification number ].

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Elassogaster brachialis ( Steyskal 1980: 566) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1873e: 290) described Myiodella brachialis , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being two specimens in the type series found in this study, from material collected by O. Beccari and O. Antinori. Guiglia (1957: 195) reported a “ holotype ” in the MSNG without knowing about a female syntype in the MZUF, which brings the original syntype series to two specimens. In his original description, Rondani did not explicitly refer to a single specimen, therefore Guiglia’s “ holotype ” specimen must be considered the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.6). The additional MZUF female not examined by Guiglia is a paralectotype.
