ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869a: 33 (key), 35 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (covered with mold, head and thorax partially eaten by dermestids) ( MZUF: Box 31): Megaglossa Rnd. Platystoma / plantationis Rndn., Apenn. [= Apennines] / 1628.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Platystoma plantationis View in CoL ( Soós 1984b: 42, Belcari et al. 1995b: 7).

REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 35) described Megaglossa plantationis from a single male: “ Marem unicum inveni [I found a single male]”. Rivosecchi (2000: 167) reported finding the holotype in the MZUF to be in poor condition.
