ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871a: 323.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in montuosis parmensibus [ Parmese mountains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (missing left fore- and right mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 25): Spilogaster Mcqrt / lucana Rnd. , ♀, Alpi / 1323 .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Helina depuncta (Fallén, 1825) ( Pont 1986b: 141, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 13).

REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 323) described Spilogaster lucana from more than one female without specifying the exact number of specimens: “ Foeminas tantum aliquas legi [I collected only a few females]”. He later ( Rondani 1877c: 83) considered this nominal species as a variety of Spilogaster indistincta Rondani, 1866 . We found one syntype in this study.
