ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 36.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUN: Box Antomidei A 02, 01): Polinomia lateritia Rnd. , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 11423 .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 36) described Sapromyza lateritia , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi, to whom he attributed the species name. Costa (1866: 34) listed a single MZUN specimen (as Polionoma lateritia Rnd. ) numbered “727”. We also found one syntype in this study.
