Caenosia sexpustulata Rondani, 1866 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 196 (key), 203 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agri parmensis collibus [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 24): Caenosia Mgn / sexpustulata Mgn , ♂, Parma / 1291; 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 24): Caenosia Mgn / sexpustulata Mgn , ♀, Parma / 1291.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Coenosia sexpustulata View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 211, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 16).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 203) described both sexes of Caenosia sexpustulata without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Rarissimo uterque sexus lectus [Rarely both sexes collected]”. We found three syntypes in this study. The species was described under the generic name “ Caenosia ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Coenosia Meigen, 1826 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 43).
