Caenosia barbipes Rondani, 1866 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 194 (key), 199 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in colle subapennino parmensi [ Parmese sub-Apennine hill ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂ (one of them is surely the holotype but is not labeled as such; one missing head; one glued to a cardboard; one covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 24) with the following labels: Caenosia Mgn / barbipes Rnd. , ♂, Parma / 1282.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Coenosia barbipes View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 202, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 16).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 199) described Caenosia barbipes from a single male: “ Marem unicum legi [I collected a single male]”. He later ( Rondani 1877c: 261) reported having collected only one male, but there are three specimens in the MZUF without any label indicating their type status. We are unable to single out the male upon which Rondani based his description. We leave the recognition of the holotype to a future specialist. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Caenosia ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Coenosia Meigen, 1826 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 43).
