ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 166.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Aegyptus [ Egypt]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MRSN: Box 1755): Eristalis Fbr. pallitarsis Rndn., Aegyptium / Eristalis nili Rond, 1850: 166 , Aegyptius.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Eristalis Latreille, 1804 ( Peck 1988: 192) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Eristalis tenax (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Thompson, 2019: 127) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 166) described Eristalis nili from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from E. Truqui. Thompson (2019: 155) designated the MRSN female as lectotype and considered this specimen to have been apparently mis-sexed by Rondani.
