ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 210 (key), 212 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus subapenninis [sub-Apennine hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 7): Callicera Mgn / bertolonii Rnd. , ♂, Parma / 368.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 126); junior synonym of Callicera fagesii Guérin-Méneville, 1844 View in CoL ( Speight 1991: 11, Belcari et al. 1995a: 13).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 212) described Callicera bertolonii from just the male sex without giving any measurement of length: “ Mas specie semel a me inventus [The male of the species once found by myself]”. We found one syntype in this study.
