ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1874d: 9 (key), 10 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in insula Melita [ Malta Island]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 34): Meroplius Rndn. / melitensis Rndn ., Melita / 1766.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sepsis lateralis Wiedemann, 1830 View in CoL (Zuska & Pont 1984: 161, Pont & Meier 2002: 28, 165).

REMARKS: Rondani (1874d: 10) described Meroplius melitensis from two males: “ duo mascula misit D. Schembri [D. Schembri sent two males]”. Pont & Meier (2002: 165) reported two types in the MZUF, we found only one.
