This worldwide family of Culicomorpha contains more than 2,100 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1863) described one species from Chile, currently considered as valid ( Vulcano 1967, Adler 2020). We could not locate any type material and presume that it has been lost.
