ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1873e: 284.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Keren [Keren ( Eritrea)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): Bogos 1870, Keren, O. Beccari / Typus / distinguenda Rond. , ♀ / Sarcophaga distinguenda ♀.
CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Sarcophaginae View in CoL ( Dear 1980: 817, Pape 1996: 422); junior synonym of Sarcophaga (Bercaea) africa ( Wiedemann, 1824) ( Pape 2002: 344) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1873e: 284) described Sarcophaga distinguenda from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by O. Beccari and O. Antinori. Guiglia (1957: 196), Raineri & Rey (1996: 49) and Pape (2002: 344) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG.
